Munnar

Standing 5.2K tall above the sea level, this majestic hill station offers you the best Western Ghats and its scenic poetic beauty. The mountains when seen from afar, are bluish tinted here, hence the name Neelagiri. We have tea plantations, cardamom, and pepper plantations in vast extents of the mountainscapes of Munnar. During sweltering summer in the valley, the climate uphills at Munnar hilltop will be chilly and definitely will soothe your mind and rejuvenate your body.

The History of Munnar

In the 1800’s the tea plantations and a surge in the spice trade gave a new lease of life to the original inhabitants - the Muthuvan Tribal community. Though disputes existed whether Munnar and the surrounding areas belonged to the Travancore Kingdom or to the adjoining Madras Presidency. Munnar is also the hereditary birthplace of the Poonjar Royal Family.
